2. Sustainable development, sustainability and the CSR

In today's world and even more so in the future, we have a duty to promote technical solutions within the framework of sustainable development and sustainability.

Sustainable development is "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs", quote from Mrs Gro Harlem Brundtland, Norwegian Prime Minister (1987). As you can see, this already old concept is nevertheless very current.

Sustainability also expresses the ability to maintain a material, structure or product at a level of performance and characteristics close to its initial state over time.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which was born in the 1960s, is the implementation of sustainable development by companies. It is now considered as the foundation of the company. It is at the centre of the strategy of companies and the concerns related to sustainable development in their activities. It encourages companies to develop responsible, ethical, social and human behaviour towards their employees, customers, suppliers, social partners, the environment and the future.

To this end, several tools or methods are available to cultivate CSR. For MRO companies, these include:

•    Lifelong learning for technicians,
•    the development of preventive and predictive maintenance,
•    Reducing the carbon impact of training through the use of digital means.
